Sheikh Hasina and Barack Obama

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday extended her heartiest congratulation to Barack Obama on his reelection as the US president.

“On behalf of the people of Bangladesh and myself, I extend my heartiest greetings to you and to the people of USA on the occasion of your landslide victory in the US presidential election,” the premier said in a congratulatory message sent to Obama, PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad quoted the PM as saying.

Sheikh Hasina, now in Vientiane on a four-day official visit to Laos, termed Obama’s victory as a triumph of democracy and his fight against terrorism.

The prime minister expressed the hope the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the USA would be further strengthened during Obama’s second term in office.

“I look forward to further strengthening the existing cordial ties of friendship, understanding and cooperation between our two countries in the years ahead,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina also wished good health, happiness and long life of Obama as well as the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the friendly people of the USA.
