Hasan Mahmud blames BNP men for abductions, killings

Awami League’s publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday alleged BNP leaders and activists are responsible for the abductions and killings of their fellowmen across the country.

“There’s an internal conflict in BNP that has led to the incidents of killing, abduction and enforced disappearances,” he said.

Dr Hasan Mahmud, also a former minister, was addressing a discussion on the country’s current political situation organised by Bangabandhu Academy at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city.

“Tarique should be sent to a rehabilitation centre in London for the treatment of his mental problem,” he said.

Taking a swipe at Dr Muhammad Younus , Dr Kamal Hossain and some human Rights organisations for their silence over Gaza issue,  he questioned, “Why don’t they speak up against the Israel invasion in Gaza? Why don’t they speak up against the killings and abductions of Awami League leaders and activists?”

Addressing the meeting, speakers also requested media not to publish and broadcast Tarique’s speech as it creates chaos and division in the country.

Chaired by Awami League Dhaka city unit joint secretary Haji Mohammad Selim, the discussion was also addressed by, among others, former state minister for Home affairs Shamshul Haque Tuku.
