Hartal enforced to make Bangladesh militant state: Qamrul

State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam on Sunday alleged that the Islamic parties enforced today’s hartal in a bid to make Bangladesh a militant state.

“A plot is on to turn Bangladesh into a militant state like Pakistan and Afghanistan. And that’s why, they (Islamic parties) enforced today’s hartal,” he said.

The state minister made the remarks while addressing a protest rally organised by Awami League and its associate bodies in front of the party office at the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue.

Observing that country’s people do not support any anti-people programmes, including hartal, under any circumstance, Qamrul claimed that the people rejected the shutdown.

Several Islamic parties enforced the countrywide daylong hartal protesting what they said attacks on their Friday’s demonstrations, and also demanding punishment to ‘atheist’ bloggers.

AL Dhaka city unit general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, vice-presidents Mukul Chowdhury and Foyaz Uddin Miah, and organising secretary Shah-e-Alam Murad were, among others, present at the protest.
