She urges all to remain united against imperialist forces

News - Govt to free country from communalism: Dipu
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni on Thursday said the government is committed to making the country free from communalism and extremism to take it forward.

“Communalism and extremism are the forces that we (govt) have decided to defeat in our mission,” she said while addressing an international seminar at a city hotel.

Bangladesh Peace Council (BPC) organised the seminar, titled ‘To Build Regional Cooperation against Communalism and Imperialist Aggression’, marking the 40th anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s receiving the Juliot-Curie Peace Award.

Presided over by Prof Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman, the seminar was addressed, among others, by former Law Minister Abdul Matin Khasru, BPC president Mozaffar Hossain Paltu and peace activists from other countries.

Voicing frustration over the ongoing political violence, the foreign minister said, “It’s unfortunate we’ve seen a surge of politically-motivated violence within our society that continues to shock the nation.”

Describing various government steps taken for ensuring peace and development in the country, she said the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to establishing lasting peace and ensuring sustainable development.

In this regard, the minister stressed the need for alleviating poverty and making the nation skilled one.

Stating that imperialist forces and their collaborators are trying to weaken the government’s firm commitment to ensure peace, Dipu Moni urged all to remain united against the forces.

Over the implementation of the government’s ‘Vision 2021’, she urged all to join hands to create an environment for the youths so that they can lead the nation in achieving the goal.

The foreign minister also recalled the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to promoting peace in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Matin Khasru underscored the need for increasing people-to-people contact among various countries for establishing peace.

Criticising the United States for violating human rights in different places across the globe, he said the imperialist powers like US are destroying peace despite the fact that they always talk about human rights.
