Govt plans nat’l healthcare database: Joy

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy on Tuesday said the government will introduce a national healthcare database to facilitate better treatment for the common people.

“We want to introduce a national healthcare database. If the database is created all the systems of health records will easily be available to doctors,” he said.

Joy, the only son of the Prime Minister, came up with the disclosure while addressing the concluding ceremony of a two-day Regional Health Informative Conference organised by the Management Information Systems of Director General of Health Services at a city hotel.

He said the government is in the process of building the national identity system. “Once we get the national identity system in place, then it’ll become easier to build the national healthcare database,” the PM’s adviser added.

Mentioning that the government’s goal is to digitise all the government services in the next five years, Joy said the ICT Ministry is working for working out a cyber security plan to make data secure.

“All the government data will be accessible online and everything will be electronic. Bangladesh will be a role model of IT development and its adaptation,” he said.

Joy said they are receiving requests from different developing countries for providing training in the IT sector.
