The chairman of the parliament standing committee on labour and employment ministry, Israfil Alam, said on Sunday that the government is contemplating to appoint a labour attaché for every 50,000 migrant workers to oversee them. The labour attaches will advise them and work for protecting their rights, he said. Israfil Alam came up with the observation as the chief guest while addressing a seminar on ‘Consultation on protection of rights and dignity of women migrant workers’ at the National Press Club. He said migrant workers are not ‘commodities’. ‘They are manpower and we send them abroad for employment purposes.’
