Govt making unprecedented mockery in the name of polls: Kazi Zafar

Kazi Zafar Ahmed, the sacked senior presidium member of Jatiya Party, on Sunday alleged that the government is making an unprecedented mockery in the name of election.

“The mockery the government is making in the name of election is unprecedented in the world history,” he said.

Zafar came up with the allegation at a press conference at his Gulshan office at noon.

The veteran politician also observed that the history will consider the rule of incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a ‘wild administration’.

Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad removed Zafar from the party as he sharply criticised him after the party initially joined the election-time government and announced to contest the January-5 general election.

The following day, Zafar said he reconstituted the Jatiya Party committee by removing its chief HM Ershad. “I’m the chairman of the new committee and Ghulam Moshi its secretary general,” he had said.

Zafar said already 154 candidates of the Janury-5 election has been elected unopposed and the Prime Minister can form the government if she wishes. “I don’t know whether there is any instance like it in the world where the ruling and opposition got united for the polls.”

He also said the ruling party candidate withdrew his candidature for ensuring the victory of the opposition candidates.

Zafar urged the Prime Minister to cancel the election schedule and quit power in the interest of the country and its people.

He also called upon the President as the guardian of the sate and constitution to take steps to find out a solution to the problem in consultation with all parties.
