Claiming that the government’s public support has hit the zero level, BNP on Saturday the current ‘illegal’ regime will be ousted through a mass movement.
“The present government came to power through the January 5 farcical election. It’s an illegal and unconstitutional administration having no public support,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The BNP spokesman also warned that this ‘unpopular’ government cannot stay in office for a long time. “Their fall is certain.”
Fakhrul came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city with BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shimul Biswas marking the recent release of the trio from jail on bail.
Mentioning that the current regime is still in office with the power of gun not with people’s support, the BNP leader alleged that the ruling part has restored one-party rule Baksal in the country to annihilate the opposition.
“Awami League had killed democracy once in 1975 through establishing Baksal and they again killed it through the January 5 voter-less and lopsided elections,” he added.
Fakhrul said the people of Bangladesh had never accepted autocrats and dictators. “People will also not let this regime implement its blueprint to hang onto power against their will this time, too.”
Talking to reporters Khandaker Mahbub said this government is unconstitutional and people did not give it the mandate to run the state. “This illegal government won’t be allowed to stay in office for a long period.”
