Government clears women’s cricket team’s Pakistan tour

The Ministry of Youth and Sports sent a letter to the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday, giving the go-ahead.

“The women’s cricket team is supposed to visit Pakistan after the Eid. We have sent letter to the BCB, asking to seek visas. A [government order] has been issued over this,” Ministry of Youth and Sports Joint Secretary Zakir Ahmed told bdnews24.com.

He said it was up to the BCB to take the final decision regarding the tour.

BCB Media & Communications chief Jalal Yunus told bdnews24.com that he was aware of the development.

“BCB President Nazmul Hassan will return to the country tomorrow (Wednesday). He will hold a meeting with the board and affiliates before deciding.”

He said the cricketers were currently undergoing training.

“We are fully prepared for the tour.”

Pakistan Cricket Board has shown much interest in hosting the Bangladesh women. A BCB team was in Karachi and Lahore recently to assess security issues.

If things go according to plan, the girls’ will fly to Pakistan on Sep 27. They will play a one-day and a Twenty20 match there.
