‘Fugitive’ AL MP Amanur signs JS attendance book

Amanur Rahman Khan‘Absconding’ Awami League MP Amanur Rahman Khan (Rana), also a prime suspect and wanted by police for alleged involvement in a murder case, turned up in the parliament once again on Monday.

The Tangail-3 Awami League MP left parliament in broad day light signing the attendance book, evading police arrest. He came to parliament after 73 days of absence.

The ruling Awami League MP from Tangail-3 is on the wanted list of police for his alleged involvement in the murder of local Awami League leader Faruk Ahmed.

On-duty policemen and guards at the parliament said Amanur went to the parliament by his own car at 11:00am and signed the record book kept on the MP lobby in the parliament building. He then waited for a few minutes there and left the lobby.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, “Hundreds of people are visiting the parliament every day. Probably, police could not recognise Amanur. If they could identify him, they certainly would inform it to the speaker.”

On-duty police officer said, “They informed high-up security officers about Amanur’s presence in parliament once he entered parliament. But, they didn’t issue any order over his arrest.”

Chief security officer in parliament said commodore Syed Ariful Islam and deputy sergeant at arms (operation) Selim Khan said they do not know anything about it.

“I came to know about Amanur’s arrival in parliament today (Tuesday). He might have come to parliament, but he did not attend the parliament assembly.”

Earlier on 5 July last year, Amanur Rahman Khan went to parliament and signed the attendance book to save his membership.
According to the country’s constitution, an MP will lose his/her membership if s/he remains absent for 90 working days.

Earlier, two persons accused in the Faruk murder case, had given confessional statements under Section 164 pointing to Amanur as being behind the murder.

They then said the MP Amanur and his brother Tangail municipal mayor Shahidur Rahman Khan (Mukti), were present during the murder. Besides, Amanur’s other two brothers, business leader Zahidur Rahman Khan (Kakon) and Saniyat Khan (Bappa) were also connected with the murder.
