Fuel efficient car design contest in Bangladesh

The first-ever contest to design and manufacture fuel efficient cars is going to be held in Bangladesh on Mar 15.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) will jointly host the event drawing 14 teams from Bangladesh’s technical universities at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.

Styled “ECORUN”, organisers say the contest will enable students as well as engineers to become part of an instant workforce for the car making industries as they would design and make vehicles all by themselves.

Designing of fuel efficient vehicles were focused on the environment and the future of young engineers and students, a media release said. There will be both three and four wheelers in the contest.

ECORUN is a Japanese concept of fuel efficient car design that focuses on ‘distance per liter fuel, not speed’. But in Bangladesh it will focus on the market needs also, the media release added.

JICA overseas cooperation volunteer Toshiya Okawara first introduced the concept in Bangladesh in 2011 helping Barisal Technical School and College students making two cars.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries will provide the necessary car engines for the participating teams to design their cars through their respective alma mater, the release said.
