Friday, Saturday blockade-free

The nationwide blockade programme will resume on Sunday

Friday and Saturday will be out of BNP’s ongoing indefinite blockade programme across the country, party chairperson’s adviser Osman Farruq said.

He made the announcement through a video message on Thursday evening.

The indefinite blockades, called by BNP-led 18-party alliance, began on January 1.

The opposition alliance had boycotted the 10th parliamentary elections held on January 5.

The Awami League has secured majority in the elections bagging 231 seats — 104 contested, 127 uncontested — while Jatiya Party has achieved second majority winning 33 seats — 13 contested, 20 uncontested.

In the latest development, 283 MPs, who were elected in the 10th parliamentary polls have taken oath on Thursday morning.

However, BNP has been claiming that the government has been violating the constitution in keeping two parliaments alive simultaneously.
