 A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent four bloggers, arrested on charges of making derogatory comments about Islam and Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) through the Internet, to jail.

Passing the order, Metropolitan Magistrate M Erfan Ullah also fixed April 15 for further hearing of two bail petitions filed by the lawyers of the accused in the presence of the investigation officers.

They are: Asif Mohiuddin, Moshiur Rahman Biblop, (online pseudonym ‘Allama Shaitan’), Russell Parvez, 36, (‘Apobak’) and Subrato Shuvo, 25, (`Lalu Kasai’).

DB inspectors Mynul Islam and M Sazzad Hossain, also IOs of two separate cases, produced the arrested bloggers before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court around 2:30 pm.

Barrister Jotirmoy Barua and Advocate Alauddin Mollah filed two bail prayers for the accused.

After a brief hearing, the court sent the bloggers to jail fixing April 15 for further hearing of the bail petitions in the presence of the IOs.

On April 2, detectives arrested the bloggers from different areas of the city for their controversial write-ups against religion, especially Islam.

Biplob, Parvez and Shuvo were placed on a seven-day remand on the day while Asif was taken on a three-day remand on April 4. Asif was later placed on a fresh one-day remand on April 8.

They were shown arrested under the Section 54 of the Bangladesh Penal Code.
