Floods inundate fresh areas in Bogra, Sirajganj, Sylhet

A fresh spell of floodwater inundated new low-lying areas in Bogra and Sirajganj as the River Jamuna overflowed its banks on Tuesday.
Jamuna swelled due to onrush of water from upstream India along with heavy rains in Bangladesh, said officials of Water Development Board.
They said that the floods in the country’s Sylhet region had also worsened due to rush of water from Barak basin and heavy rains in the eastern districts.
According to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, Jamuna and Kushiyara rivers were showing a rising trend while Padma remained in steady.
The River Brahmaputra was likely to continue the falling trend in the next 48 hours from Tuesday
morning, forecast the FFWC.
Surma-Kushiyara may continue to rise in the next two days.
FFWC duty officer and sub-divisional engineer Sarder Udoy Raihan predicted that Jamuna and Brahmaputra would start receding soon as there was no forecast of heavy rains in the upstream.
On Monday, heavy rains brought life to almost halt in the capital with many residential areas and streets suffering serious logging.
Torrential rains together with waters gushing in from across the border aggravated the floods in the northeastern districts of the country.
