‘Forgive me,’ Mohammad Ashraful says to the nation, admitting his guilt, during a briefing in the capital on Tuesday.

In a sensational revelation, ace batsman Mohammad Ashraful on Tuesday admitted before the media his involvement in spot-fixing during the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.

“I have done a lot of mistakes in my life, and, for the sake of cricket, I have decided to tell everyone the truth,” he told newsmen at Banasree in the capital shortly after Bangladesh Cricket Board disclosed its decision to “keep away” from all cricketing activities.

“I hope the country forgives me for what I have done.”

Asked if he was pressured by the BPL franchise Dhaka Gladiators which he captained, Ashraful said: “I have said everything to the ICC’s anti corruption committee right the first time. And I won’t be able to comment on that issue right now.”

The youngest centurion in Test cricket said he had tried to give his best in all the three formats in his 12-year cricketing career, Ashraful expressed his hope that the people of the country would forgive him.

Earlier in the day, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon said at a press conference that he personally thought that it would not be proper to allow Ashraful play any cricket match at least till ICC anti-corruption and security unit submits its probe report.
