Five Bangladeshi women win global leadership award

Five Bangladeshi women leaders have received the ‘Global Women Leadership Award’ at the World Women Leadership Congress (WWLC) 2015.

The event was held in the western Indian city of Mumbai on February 17 and 18.

Globally honored Bangladeshi awardees are Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, the speaker of the parliament of Bangladesh; Samira Zuberi Himika, founder and managing director of Team Engine and director of BASIS; Luna Shamsuddoha, president of BWIT and chairman of Dohatec New Media; Romina Dewan, founder executive director of Livelihood Education And Development Services (LEADS); Sharmeen Annie, Human Resources Director of CEMEX Cement (Bangladesh) Ltd.

A total of 120 women leaders from 83 countries participated the event this year.

The WWLC honors the strategic and influential role of various women leaders in the development of the modern economy, technology, and administrative methodologies that promotes the advancement of the government and business organisation according to the standards of global competitiveness.

The Women Leadership Award recognises and appreciates the profound role played by women as leaders, executioners, and decision makers, in shaping the future of the region and nation, and who embody the qualities of leadership in displaying active, creative, and integrative efforts in achieving the best possible results in the national and regional development plans.
