Financing, implementing will be a challenge: Saleh Uddin

There are many challenges in this budget that will be impossible to meet, he said in a reaction.

The economist said one good thing about the budget was that there was continuity.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith presented his sixth consecutive budget in parliament on Thursday.

“Look at the revenue target, Tk 1.82 trillion. Of that, the revenue board will have to collect 1.5 trillion,” he pointed out.

“Given their poor performance in the current fiscal, do you believe they will be able to meet that target?”

The National Board of Revenue could not have improved radically overnight, he said.

The former governor said that the 7.3 percent growth target was also unrealistic.

“Right now the growth rate is 6.12 percent. If you want to increase growth by another 1 percent, investment will have to grow by 4 to 5 percent,” he said.

“It is a difficult task to create good business environment and to gain the trust of private investors,” Saleh Uddin said.
