Garment labour leaders at a protest rally in the capital on Thursday called on the government to take actions against the garment factory owners who did not pay wages and festival allowances of the workers by June 26.
National Garment Workers Federation organised the rally in front of the National Press Club, demanding payment of the workers’ wages and festival allowances before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Amirul Haque Amin, the president of the NGWF, said that around half of the factory owners across the country did not pay festival allowances by Ramadan 20.
He demanded government actions against these factory owners who breached their commitments.
He also demanded immediate payment of wages and festival allowances before Eid, so that the workers could enjoy the festival.
Quamrul Ahsan, politburo member of the Workers Party, said that the garment workers were low paid and their June month’s wages should be paid before Eid.
NGWF general secretary Amirul Haque Amin chaired the programme where Safia Parvin, Faroque Khan, and Arifa Akter addressed among others.
