Police establishments across the country have been holding feast and cultural programmes since the first day of the new year to cheer up the force members.

Several police officials, wishing anonymity, told The Daily Star that these programmes were being organised as per directives from the Police Headquarters (PHQ), as part of a reward to the policemen for playing due roles in arranging a free, fair and peaceful election “without any major violence.”

All the 50 police stations under Dhaka Metropolitan Police held feasts on Saturday while the PHQ orgainsed special feasts for its officials yesterday, said several officials of the headquarters.

Police stations under Rangpur and Chattogram ranges arranged the recreation programmes on January 1, said senior officials of the respective ranges.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (Admin) of Police Habibur Rahman has issued letters to all the superintendents of police in the country appreciating their roles during the election.

SM Ruhul Amin, DIG at the PHQ, said such programmes were arranged to reinvigorate the spirits of the policemen every time after a big event as they had to go through a tiring job during the whole period.
