The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Tuesday sought an audience with the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The apex business body’s Secretary General Mir Shahabuddin told bdnews24.com that they sent a letter to the opposition leader for her time.

Shahabuddin said the effort was for a courtesy call by the newly elected Board of Directors of the FBCCI, which has already expressed its frustration over the current political situation, arguing that it is hurting the economy hugely.

Apparently frustrated by repeated enforcement for shutdown in the wake of recent political turmoil, the FBCCI may make an effort to make the opposition leader understand the need for avoiding confrontation for the sake of economy.

The apex body also sent a similar letter to Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad, seeking his appointment.

“It’s a regular issue. The new Board of Directors always pays such courtesy calls after taking over office,” he said.

The newly elected FBCCI leaders have already met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Shahabuddin said that the trade body was concerned over the recent political unrest.

He said that the FBCCI already requested the political parties to find out an alternative way of protest.
