BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the opposition would sue the ruling party leaders should they continuepropaganda with ill-motive to stigmatise the BNP leadership.

He issues the warning referring to ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s allegation that Fakhrul had a meeting at the Pakistan high commission and that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman had contact with ISI, Pakistan’s military intelligence.

“This statement is aimed at maligning the BNP,” Mirza Fakhrul said during a briefing at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office.

He pointed out that the AL camp had always shown its penchant for leaving the BNP off-guard by implicating the BNP in accusation of having connection with another country or agency.

“We always came to state power with the mandate of the people. We’ve no special hobnob with any intelligence agency or a country,” the BNP leader added.
He asked Obaidul Quader and also another AL leader, Abdur Rahman, to withdraw their remarks. “Otherwise, we will be compelled to take legal actions.”

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the ruling party is engaged in misusing power and public money for its propaganda through the media.

He also claimed that the AL activists have opened over 300 fake Facebook IDs to publicise fake news targetting the opposition.

“There was no case filed in this connection. But from now on, we’ll sue them,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

He condemned the government’s decision to close down 58 online portals.

The BNP leader mentioned that the next elections would decide whether democracy would be functional in the country.
