A Dhaka court again on Monday rejected the bail petitions of BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accused in two cases for torching vehicles during the December 9 road blockade.

Judge (vacation) Md Helal Uddin of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court gave the decision after holding hearing on the bail petitions filed challenging the lower court rejection order.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on December 11 rejected Fakhrul’s bail petitions and ordered the authorities concerned to send him to jail in the same cases.

On December 18, Fakhrul’s lawyer filed the bail petitions challenging the lower court rejection order.

The two cases were filed with Paltan and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police stations for torching vehicles during the December 9 countrywide road blockade programme enforced by the BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance.

Police arrested Fakhrul on December 10 in connection with the cases.

During the incumbent government’s tenure, Fakhrul was sent to jail two times.

He was first sent to jail on May 15 this year in an arson case. He was released after the High Court granted him bail in the case.
