Fakhrul & Co charged in court in three cases

Police on Wednesday pressed charges against several opposition activists including BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Moudud Ahmed, Goyeshar Chandra Roy, in a Dhaka court over the Mar 2 violence in the capital.

They submitted chargesheets in three cases, filed with Shahjahanpur and Paltan police, at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahrair Mahmud Adnan in the afternoon.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution and Information Department) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Anisur Rahman told bdnews24.com of the development.

From a BNP procession that day, several vehicles were smashed and torched following which police filed five cases. Of them, two each were filed at the Ramna and Paltan Police Stations and the other one with the Shahjahanpur police.

One of the cases, filed under the Speedy Trial Act with the Paltan police, implicated 26 persons including Fakhrul, Moudud, Goyeshar, Abdullah Al Noman, Amanullah Aman and Juba Dal President Moazzem Hossain Alal.

The court will hold a hearing on Apr 7 to decide whether to accept the chargesheet in the case.

Another case filed at the same police station accused 44 leaders and activists of the BNP including Moudud, Goyeshar, Mirza Abbas, Aman and Alal. The court will hold a hearing on the acceptance of the chargesheet on Mar 3.

The case filed with the Shahjahanpur police implicated 23 individuals including Fakhrul, Moudud, Abbas, Noman and Alal. The hearing on the acceptance of the charges is due on Apr 7.
