Fakhrul, 2 others get bail in vandalism case

BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy were granted bail in a vandalism case on Wednesday.

All of them surrendered before Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge KM Imrul Kayes after the duration of bail granted by the High Court expired.

They are accused in a case filed over damaging vehicles in court premises, attacking and obstructing police from performing their duties while demonstrating for the unconditional release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

BNP lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder said that the High Court granted interim bail to the trio on November 28 last year.

The Metropolitan Sessions Court granted them bail after a hearing.

On November 26 last year, Sub-Inspector Motiur Rahman of Shahbag Police Station filed the case over the incident of vandalism.

Police named 28 BNP activists and accused 500 others in the case.
