The student has been temporarily expelled by the authorities for beating teachers.

Chairman of the department Narayan Saha said they received the letter on Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist Jahid Hossain Nayeem’s expulsion after the test was held on Wednesday.

Faruk Uddin, who is leading the teachers demonstration seeking VC Aminul Haque Bhuyan’s removal, said the VC did it in a planned manner.

Nayeem, a second-year student of the department, sat the final exam of the course – FES 218 – from 9:30am to 12pm.

The invigilators at the exam hall were AJM Manjur Rashid, Mahmuda Sharmin, Fahmida Sultana and Sourav Das.

Nayeem is known to be a follower of Imran Khan, General Secretary of the SUST unit of the ruling Awami League’s student affiliate BCL.

Following an attack on teachers demonstrating against the VC on Sunday, the university on Tuesday temporarily expelled four students – Nayeem, Dhani Ram Roy, Abdullah Al Masum, and Ariful Islam Arif.

The news of their expulsion made headlines amidst condemnation across the country over the attack.

Referring to their expulsion, VC Bhuyan on Wednesday told reporters that steps would be taken against anyone else found involved in the attack.
