DU student goes missing

A Dhaka University student has went missing from Fuller Road on Dhaka University campus on Tuesday evening, classmates and family members claimed.

The missing student, Azizul Haq Khan Kanak, is a first year student of finance department and resident of Zia Hall.

Kanak, who is an activist of Ganajagaromn Mancha and Chhatra Union, sought help from his friends and party leaders before he went missing, said Kanak’s family members.

According to Kanak’s friend, Kanak made phone calls to Maruf Billah, president of Chhatra Union Dhaka University, Liton Nandi, secretary of the same organisation and Tuhin Das, cultural secretary of the central committee, and sought help adding that “he was in trouble.”

But, when Tuhin Das went to Fuller road in search of Kanak, he was not there and his mobile phone found switched off, said friends of the victim.

Later, Zia Hall provost ABM Faruq filed a general diary (no. 878) with Shahbagh police station on Wednesday afternoon, Kazi Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge, the police station, said.

According to the case statement, Kanak was on his way to his hall on Tuesday afternoon from the house of his sister Monira Yasmin’s, who was a former DU president of the organisation. On his way back to the hall, he went to the Fuller road in order to give tuition to his student and called several Chhatra Union leaders to rescue him from the spot citing that he was in trouble.

Later, he went missing from the spot and his phone found switched off, it added.

His sister Monira Yasmin expressed anxiety and said they searched for him every possible place they could.

Lucky Akter, a Manacha organiser, and also a central committee leader of Chhatra Union, said they knew nothing about the reason behind the incident.

She informed that Kanak has been very active both in Chhatra Union and Ganajagaron Mancha.
