Dhaka University proctor AKM Golam Rabbani instigated and played a role to remove closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages from DUCSU office, alleged Muhammad Rashed Khan, a leader of BGSRPC.Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council (BGSRPC) leader made the allegation at a press conference at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.

Rashed also demanded the proctor’s resignation.

The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Muktijuddha Mancha allegedly carried out an attack on DUCSU VP Nurul Haque and his followers at his office on Sunday.

A total of 24 people including Nurul received injuries and nine of them have been undergoing treatment at hospitals.

Immediately after the incident, the CCTV footages of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) office were removed.

Rashed alleged CCTV footages were removed to save BCL DU unit president Sanjit and secretary Saddam.

He also said the university administration and the BCL jointly removed the CCTV footages.

Nurul-led BGSRPC joint convener Rashed Khan said, “Initially the Muktijudo Mancha carried out the attack on us. I phoned proctor sir at least ten times. He received my phone three times and took me to task.”

“The proctor said you are nobody of DUCSU. Why did you go there? I said I can go everywhere as a student. The proctor hurled abusive language at me again,” Rashed said.

“I implored repeatedly but he did not turn up. When we were attacked for the second time, he came to the spot. Thus he helped the attackers beat us up. We would not have been beaten up mercilessly and admitted to DMCH if he had come immediately after the first incident,” Rashed added.

He also alleged that the proctor was directly involved in the attack.

“We want the resignation of the proctor who is totally blind partisan,” Rashed said.

About the allegation, Golam Rabbani said an investigation committee has been formed and he will answer to the committee.

Rashed alleged Sanjit and Saddam led the attack.

He said, “Those who beat us up and injured have to be brought to book and expelled. Many of us have been undergoing treatment at the hospital. As the incident took place due to the irresponsibility of the proctor, the government and the university administration have to bear the cost of treatment.”
