DNCC removes 400 shops from roads, footpaths

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has removed around 400 shops that were set up occupying roads and footpaths in Farmgate and Karwan Bazar areas in Dhaka.

It also fined super shop Agora Tk1 lakh, and Prince Hotel on Indira Road Tk2 lakh for storing rotten vegetables and fruits, and cooking in an unhygienic environment, respectively, on Thursday.

Executive Officer of DNCC Zone 5 and Executive Magistrate, Meer Nahid Hasan, conducted the drive from 10:30am.

During the drive, 200 shops were dismantled from Karwan Bazar and additional 200 from Farmgate and Indira Road.

Another mobile court, led by DNCC Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar, fined five shops in Banani Tk60,000 for selling green chilli at a higher rate than the average market price.

DNCC also fined two meat shops Tk40,000 for not keeping the price list, and a grocery store at Natun Bazar Tk10,000.
