DMP mulls banning public transport in Gulshan, Baridhara, Banani

The decision will be implemented in a week

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is considering banning public transport, except 200 rickshaws and 30 AC buses authorised by them, in Gulshan, Baridhara and Banani areas of Dhaka city within a week.

Only private cars belonging to locals and transports of any organisation of the areas will be allowed there, DMP Commissioner Assaduzzaman Mia told reporters on Thursday.

The DMP chief was replying to quries from reporters about security measures taken in Gulshan and adjacent areas after the July 1 carnage.

Assaduzzaman said there are lots of development in the case, which cannot be disclosed right now for the sake of proper investigation.

On July 1, a group of terrorists attacked an upscale cafe in Gulshan and killed 20 hostages, including 17 foreign nationals. Two senior police officers were also killed in the attack.

The government has already decided to close all unauthorised restaurants, hospitals and educational institutions operating in the capital’s Gulshan residential area.
