Leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh on Friday vowed to make its scheduled May 5 ‘Dhaka Siege’ programme defying all odds.
The Islamist party that staged a big showdown at the city’s Shapla Chattar on April 6 also called upon the owners and the workers of launches and other transports to carry its leaders and activists to Dhaka before May 5 and stop plying those on both road and river routes on May 5.
Hefajat announced the Dhaka Siege programme from its April 6 rally to realise its 13-point demand.
Briefing reporters at the office of Dhaka City unit Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh in the city’s Lalbagh area, Hefajat’s Dhaka City convener Maulana Nur Hossain Kashemi said the rights of all workers will be implemented if the 13-point demand is met.
Khashemi said thousands of Tawhidi janata have already reached Dhaka and many more are ready to join the much-hyped Dhaka Siege programme.
“The Dhaka siege programe will be made successful peaceful at any cost,” he said.
He called upon its leaders and activists as well as the religious people to take out possessions at all entry points of Dhaka city after Fajar prayers on May 5 with jainamaj (prayer mates), Tasbih and dry food.
The entry points are Abdullahpur, Gabtali, Babubazar Bridge, Postagola Bridge, Katchpur Bridge and Demra Bridge.
Kashemi, also the central nayeb-e-ameer of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh, urged all, especially the members of the law enforcement agencies not to harass anyone going to participate in the Siege programme.
He alleged that workers, especially the female ones, are being subjected to harassment by law enforcers.
About workers’ rights, Kashemi said the gap between the owner and workers will minimise once their demands are met.
He also called upon the workers to come out on the streets to make the Dhaka Siege a success.
Kashemi alleged that vested quarters, both at home and abroad, have been trying to obstruct their peaceful movement aimed at realising the 13-point demand.
