Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Monday told parliament that total default-loans in the country now stood at Tk 1,11,347 crore.
Total default-loans at banks and commercial oragnisations stood Tk1,11,347 crore till April 2017, according to the Credit Information Bureau of Bangladesh Bank, Muhith said while answering to a query from Awami League lawmaker Mohibur Rahman Manik.
Muhith is his scripted answer also provided names of
top 100 loan defaulters.
Top 20 includes : Mohammad Elias Brothers Pvt Limited, Jasmir Vegetable Oil Ltd, Max Spinning Mills Ltd, Benetex Industries Ltd, Dhaka Trading House, Anowara Spinning Mills, Yasir Enterprise, Quantam Power Systems Ltd, MM
Vegetable Oil Products Ltd, Aleppa Composite Towel Ltd, Western Marine Shipyard Limited, Mak International, Hall Mark Fashion Limited, Monno Fabrics Limited, Fair Trade Fabrics Limited, Saharish Composite Towel Limited, Nurjahan Super Oil Ltd, Saleh Carpet Mills Limited, SK Steel and Chowdhury Knitwear.
The finance minister, however, did not say how many loan defaulters were in the country. But on June 20, he had informed the House that the total number of loan defaulters was 2.02 lakh.
A total of 2,02,623 persons or companies, which had borrowed money from 55 state and private run commercial banks, defaulted on their loans till March 2017.
Finance minister AMA Muhith on Monday, also informed parliament that National Board of Revenue had seized about 4,490 kilograms of gold in last seven years from the airports and checkpoints.
A total of 4,490 kilograms of gold had been seized by different offices under the National Board of Revenue since 2009, Muhith said while answering to a question from Awami League lawmaker Tanveer Imam.
The average daily transactions made through mobile financial services in May 2017 stood at Tk 844.23 crore, Muhith said while answering another query from AL lawmaker Abdul Latif.
Daily 49 lakh transactions took place, Muhith said.
He also said that total of number of mobile financial service agents were 7.46 lakh and total number of users were 5.26 crore and total number of service provider were 17.
