Cyclone Bulbul: Mongla, Payra ports asked to hoist signal 7

Mongla and Payra maritime ports have been asked to raise danger signal No. 7, and Chattogram danger signal No. 6 on Friday evening as the severe cyclonic storm Bulbul is nearing the Bangladesh coasts.

Meteorologist Abdul Mannan told Prothom Alo that coastal regions of Barishal and Khulna divisions are under signal No. 7 while Chattogram, Noakhali, Lakshmipur and Chandpur are under signal No. 6. Cox’s Bazar has been asked to hoist cautionary signal No. 4.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the storm is approaching the Bangladesh coasts with maximum sustained wind speed of 125 kilometres per hour.

Earlier at a briefing at the secretariat building, state minister for disaster management and relief Md Enamur Rahman said that the severe cyclonic storm Bulbul likely to hit Bangladesh anytime between evening to midnight on Saturday.

He said 5-7 feet tidal surge may hit the coastal areas due to the cyclone.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to take shelter immediately and remain in shelter till further notice.
