The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday alleged that the country is witnessing disastrous crimes against humanity under the patronisation of the Awami League government.

“The law and order has seen a complete breakdown. Crimes against humanity are being carried out under the government patronisation,” said the BNP leader after visiting Sylhet Government Mohila College student Khadija Akter Nargis.

Khadija Akter, hacked by a leader of ruling Awami League’s student body Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Sylhet, is now on life support in a critical condition at Square hospital in the capital.

A duty doctor at the hospital on Tuesday told Prothom Alo that the victim was in critical condition. There are hack wounds all over her body. Her head injury was grievious and she was taken for a second surgery, he said.

On Monday evening, Khadija Akter Nargis, 23, daughter of Masuk Miah, a resident of Hausa village in Sadar upazila, was stopped on her way home from college by Badrul Alam, 30, assistant secretary of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit of BCL.

Calling the attack on the female student a crime against humanity, Fakhrul said the BCL leader hacked Khadija with an attempt to kill her.

“The attack on Khadija has once again proved who are nurturing hoodlums and terrorists. The BCL has carried out such incidents in the past as well.”

The BNP leader demanded exemplary punishment of the BCL leader.
