Courtney Walsh to become Bangladesh bowling coach

Former Indies captain Courtney Andrew Walsh is likely to be named as the next bowling coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Team, sources have claimed.

Heath Streak helmed the position as long as his contract stayed, and since his termination in this year’s May, the post has been vacant. After Streak expressed his reluctance to sign a renewal, Bangladesh approached former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed, who turned down the offer. Reports suggest that former South African fast bowler Allan Donald and Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas and Champaka Ramanayake were also offered the job.

The BCB(Bangladesh Cricket Board) has not confirmed the news yet. However, in the last press conference presided over by BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon, he directed towards the possibility of a new bowling coach.

A number of reliable BCB sources have let the news out that none other than the great Courtney Walsh will join the Tigers to coach the bowlers.

Walsh is currently contracted with the West Indies team as the national selector. His contract expires after the ongoing series against India.

The role has been vacant ever since the departure of former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak, whose two-year deal with the Tigers came to an end in May this year. The search for an experienced new coach has been going on since then.

England are coming to Bangladesh on 30 September to play three ODI and two Test matches. The rising Tigers are supposed to get a new bowling coach before the series.

For 21 years, Walsh ran the equivalent of 1,000 miles in first-class cricket destroying metacarpals and careers with his pace and guile.

Courtney Walsh, best known for remarkable opening bowling partnership along with fellow West Indian Curtly Ambrose for several years, captained the West Indies in 22 Test matches. The legendary player held the record of most Test wickets from 2000, after he broke the record of Kapil Dev. Walsh was the first bowler to reach 500 wickets in Test cricket.
