Court revoking registration inappropriate: BNP

A written statement by the party’s spokesperson on Friday says the BNP does not think cancellation of a political party’s registration through legal process or the court is befitting.

Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi read out the statement in Kurigram which blamed the government for pushing the country towards chaos.

Around the same time, spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a Dhaka rally said his party was against outlawing any political party.

The High Court on Thursday cancelled Jamaat’s registration. The party quickly moved the Appellate Division challenging the verdict and sought a halt on the sentence’s execution.

If its appeal is rejected, the party, BNP’s key ally, will not be able to take part in the forthcoming national elections.
