A Dhaka court has rejected the bail petition of Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in a sedition case.

At the same time, the court rejected the remand cancellation plea.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahman passed the order to continue Manna’s remand on Thursday afternoon.

Manna’s counsel Abdul Mannan Khan on Wednesday filed separate petitions seeking bail and the cancellation of Manna’s remand on the grounds of his illness.

On the same day, investigation officer of the case informed the court that Manna was admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital because of experiencing chest pain.

The IO also informed the court that he will inform to it about Manna’s recovery from the illness.

Later, the court fixed Thursday for hearing the petitions.

On March 7, a Dhaka court placed Manna on a 10-day remand in the sedition case filed against him and BNP senior leader Sadeuqe Hossain Khoka with Gulshan police station.

An audio tape of a telephonic conversation between Manna and BNP leader Sadek Hossain Khoka was leaked on February 22. The audio tape revealed that they were allegedly plotting a conspiracy of bloodshed in Universities.

Manna was arrested on February 24, a day after the leak of his controversial telephone conversation with Khoka, who has been staying in the USA for treatment purpose.

After his arrest, he also placed on a 10-day remand in another case filed with the same police station on charges of trying to instigate revolt by the armed forces.
