Politicians, academicians and jurists on Friday at a meeting described BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman as a visionary leader to take the country towards prosperity.

“Tarique Rahman has created a distinctive culture in the politics comparing to present hatred and vindictiveness,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. “He is our future leader who is showing us dreams.”

“There is no doubt that we going to get a proper leader,” he said while speaking at the roundtable discussion at Hotel Purbani in the capital.

He also said without any doubt BNP will get Tarique back home who he said will be the proper future leader of the country.

DhakaUniversity teachers — Prof Mahbub Ullah, Prof AFM Yusuf Haider and Prof Abu Ahmed — and Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, echoed Fakhrul.

MBA Association of Bangladesh, a pro-BNP professional body, organised the meeting titled ‘Political Views of Tarique Rahman: Future Bangladesh and Development Thoughts’.

Referring to the recent public appearances of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Fakhrul said when Joy is spreading vendetta against Tarique but Tarique then showing new dreams to the people.

He said Tarique, also elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has initiated a change in the country’s politics.

Fakhrul said: “We must participate in the election but the election field must be level for all.”

“I want to say categorically that there is no doubt the election would be held under a non-party caretaker administration,” said the BNP leader.

He alleged that the ruling Awami League has become politically bankrupt that is why the government has starting oppression on the people.

In an oblique reference, Fakhrul blamed Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan for the ongoing labour unrest in the readymade garment sector.
