The police could not arrest the bus driver responsible for Saturday’s killing of a schoolgirl in road accident in the Matsya Bhaban area of the capital.
They so far collected the names of the driver and the bus owner and were trying to arrest them.
Sabiha Akter Sonali, 14, a Class IX student of Begum Rahima High School in the city’s Segun Bagicha area, was killed when a reckless bus crushed her in front of Bangladesh Bar Council Saturday morning.
Jafar Ali Biswash, inspector of Shahbagh police station and investigation officer of the case filed into the incident, told New Age Sunday night that they could not arrest the driver.
The police, however, arrested the driver of the other bus that killed Class V student Khadiza Akter in front of Shishu Park Saturday afternoon.
Shahin Hossain, 22, the driver, was produced before a Dhaka court Sunday with a five-day remand prayer, said Shahbagh police station sub-inspector Imam Arefin.
But the court fixed Monday for hearing as he was now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Shahin was given a trashing by passengers after the incident.
Fellow classmates of Sabiha Akter Sonali, other students and their guardians formed human chain in front of National Press Club on Sunday, demanding exemplary punishment of the responsible bus drivers.
