Children’s film festival concludes

Leaving much delights to the children, the 7th International Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh’ concluded on Thursday.
With the theme ‘Future in Frames’, the Children’s Film Society Bangladesh organised the week-long carnival.
Earlier on Saturday, Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the festival at a gala opening ceremony at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library in the city as chief guest.
With Chairman of the festival advisers’ council Mustafa Monwar in the chair, Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor MP and Partha Pratim Majumder, an internationally-acclaimed mime artiste, spoke at the ceremony as special guests.
The festival also featured a colourful rally, film-show, workshop, seminar, child delegates’ meeting with eminent personalities and award giving ceremony.
The representatives of a total of 35 countries with over 150 children films participated in the festival which was held at 12 venues in Dhaka and six other divisional headquarters.
A large number of school children, along with their teachers and parents, thronged the four venues of the festival to watch the movies every day.
In Dhaka, a total of 33 internationally-acclaimed films were screened at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library at Shahbagh on Monday.
The festival also witnessed screening of some nine films at Daffodil International University at Sobhanbagh and three films at Alliances Frances de Dhaka on Monday.
A total of 30 internationally-acclaimed films from some 18 countries was screened at four venues of the festival in the city on Tuesday, the fourth day of the event.
The objectives of the festival are to open a new world of cinema to the children of Bangladesh and to give them an exposure to the culture and tradition of different countries through cinema.
One of the main goals of the festival is also to give children a basic idea of film to create their interest on the media and to understand its role to build awareness on different social issues as well as a powerful media of learning through entertainment.
Children’s Film Society Bangladesh is an organisation working for children on the issue of film. It was established on August 17, 2006 with a realization that the film, as the most powerful media of art , should be used properly as a strong tool of learning and entertainment for the children.
Alongside Children’s Film Society Bangladesh, Children Film Society Chittagong, Moviyana Film Society, Sylhet, Khulna Film Society, Children’s Film Society Rajshahi, Children’s Film Society Rangpur, Children’s Film Society Barisal are the local organisers of the event.
As part of the   festival, a four-day programme was also organized  at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall in the southern divisional headquarters  on Saturday.
With President  of  Barisal CFS,  Tanjilur Rahman Rafi in the chair, Abul Kalam Azad, additional deputy commissioner, attended the ceremony as chief guest.
Local publisher Mohammad Jasim Uddin inaugurated the festival while CIFS advisor Dipu Hafizur Rahiman, renowned painter Mokhlesur Rahman spoke on the occasion, among others.
A total of 26 short, feature and animated films made by the filmmakers of Argentina, Bangladesh, China, Ethiopia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iran, Latvia, Luxembourg, Spain, Taiwan , the UK and the US were screened during the festival that  concluded on Tuesday  in Barisal.
