Opposition candidates have alleged Chhatra League is behind the attacks on their candidates

Chhatra League General Secretary Golam Rabbani has said cases will be filed against leaders of opposition panels for “spoiling” the Ducsu polls.

“We demand that the candidacy of Nur, Liton, Nandi, and Anik be cancelled, and for them to be suspended permanently,” the general secretary candidate for Ducsu from Chhatra League panel Rabbany, told reporters at the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Monday.

He furthered: “This is flagrant propaganda to ruin the election atmosphere of the long-awaited Ducsu polls,” he said.

“The students will file a case against them,” Rabbani said.

All panels, except Chhatra League, have boycotted the Ducsu and hall union elections, citing vote rigging and irregularities.

Monday’s election  witnessed incidents of violence.

Liton Nandi—a vice presidential candidate, and Left panel leader—was reportedly attacked by Chhatra League, at Mohsin Hall, at 11am.

Nurul Huq Nur—a vice presidential candidate for the ongoing Ducsu polls, and Quota Reform panel leader— was also reportedly attacked, at Rokeya Hall, on Monday afternoon.

Replying to queries about Chhatra League’s alleged attacks on other candidates, Rabbani said: “Chhatra League President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and I only went to Rokeya Hall. How can they allege that Chhatra League attacked them?”
