Election Commission has proposed geographical changes to 87 parliamentary constituencies, out of 300, for the 10th general elections, according to the Joint Secretary of the EC Secretariat, Biswas Lutfur Rahman.
A draft was published on Wednesday.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner, Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed told journalists, that a draft recommending changes for 300 parliamentary constituencies had been published. He said any appeal against their proposal should be made before March 10.
The CEC did not say when the move will be implemented after resolving any demands and objections regarding their proposal.
During a dialogue with the EC, the Awami League demanded that the demarcation of the constituencies as in 2008 be retained. The main opposition BNP, however, didn’t comment on the matter.
Changes were made to at least 125 parliamentary constituencies, from the 8th session, during the 2008 polls.
A gazette notification of the final changes was published in July that year after a draft list was unveiled in April.
The 10th general election is expected to take place this year between October 25 to January 24, 2014.
