‘Cases shifted to keep Khaleda away from politics’

The BNP has alleged that the makeshift of party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s graft case from court building to Alia Madrasha ground of Bakhshibazar is just to keep her away from politics.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the allegation while addressing a press briefing at party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital on Thursday.

The spokesperson of the party condemned the decision of shifting the trial of Khaleda’s graft case and demanded to return the trial activities in the court building.

Fakhrul said: “A false and baseless case was filed against Khaleda Zia which was sent into speedy tribunal and the trial activities were shifted from court building to Alia Madrasha ground.

The government wants to complete the trial soon just to keep her away from the politics and to humiliate her,” Fakhrul said.

He said Narayanganj BNP invited Khaleda Zia to express condolence to the victims’ family members but the authorities concerned denied to give any permission which is a big attack on the democracy.

“Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy first said the permission would be given but later she denied showing the reason of law and order situation. Her denial is similar to hinder the democracy,” he said.

Requesting Ivy, Fakhrul said: “We hope that for the sake of democracy she will allow us to hold rally and will cooperate.”

He alleged that the government has been filing one after another false cases just to cemented its position in the office.

Party’s vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka demanded to bring state minister for home Asaduzzaman Kamal into book in connection with the seven murder in Narayanganj.

“Before Nazrul was killed, he sought security to the state minister for home but the minister did not pay any heed. So state minister for home should be brought into book,” he said.
