The ACC files the case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and several others on December 9, 2007
The Canadian police have sought permission from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to interrogate former foreign minister M Morshed Khan and former energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman as witnesses in connection with Niko graft case.
ACC Commissioner Md Shahabuddin made the disclosure while talking to journalists after receiving a letter from the Canadian Royal Police on Monday.
He said the Canadian attorney general has sent a Mutual Legal Assistance Request (MLAR) to the ACC authority through the Bangladesh attorney general requesting to act as facilitator in the interrogation process.
However, the specific date of the interrogation has not been informed.
On December 9, 2007, the ACC filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and several others on charge of abusing power in awarding a gas exploration and extraction deal to Canadian company Niko.
On May 5, 2008, the commission pressed charges against Khaleda Zia and 10 others in the case.
Former law minister Moudud Ahmed and former state minister for energy AKM Mosharraf Hossain are among the other charge-sheeted accused.
