The authorities on Sunday morning suspended the transportation of buses on Daulatdia-Paturia river route to ease traffic jam created on both sides of the route and sufferings of passengers.

Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Bidyut Kumar said the transportation of buses on the route remained suspended since the morning following a decision taken at a meeting of the Shipping Ministry officials with the bus owners held on Saturday night.

He said buses and coaches were directed to avoid Daulatdia-Paturia route and instead travel through Bangabandhu Bridge.

Bidyut said seven Ro-Ro ferries and three K-type ferries were transporting goods-laden trucks across the Padma River. “Most of the stranded trucks have been ferried.”

Meanwhile, work was going on to rescue Ro-Ro ferry Keramat Ali which ran aground in a hidden shoal on Friday morning.
