Burning people is murder: Joy

The Prime Minister’s son has urged the police to take strong action against those responsible for violence on innocents during strikes.

During an exchange of views with lawyers on Wednesday, Joy said burning people by setting buses on fire was plain murder.

He said, “I have witnessed this for the first time. This cannot be called a political movement. This is terrorism and murder”

Joy said not only the perpetrators, but also “those who ordered and paid them” for these acts of violence should booked and punished.

He alleged the Opposition is carrying out violence in the name of protest.

“BNP is a party of violence. We have to apply the law stringently to prevent them,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s son said he does not think the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami to be political parties.

Many people have been killed in acts of arson and explosions during the Opposition’s three nationwide strikes in as many weeks.

Joy said a number of people are creating confusion by giving wrong interpretations of various laws though they are not lawyers.

“Their aim is to assume power by misleading people.”

He asked the lawyers to be alert about these people.

Joy said the upcoming election would be held in due time and the Election Commission will deploy the army to maintain law and order during the polls.

He said the Awami League should be voted back to power to continue the development process that it has so strongly taken forward during the last five years.

Replying to a query from a lawyer, Joy said he had not come back home to be a leader by getting into politics.

“I have come to the country for the party and to work for the country. I have come to complete the revolution which is incomplete.”
