BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday described the proposed Tk 222,491-crore national budget for fiscal 2013-14 as a pro-election one.“The proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year is totally an Awami and pro-polls one,” he said while talking to UNB at his Thakurgaon residence.

The BNP leader said Finance Minister AMA Muhith, although he is not an economist, placed a lavish and dubious budget which is full of wrong information.

He also termed ‘insane’ making allocation for the much-hyped Padma Bridge in every budget.

Accusing the present government of destroying the country’s economy and the banking sector, Fakhrul said thousands of crores of Taka were looted from banks and siphoned off abroad. “There are no investment and fare prices of the agricultural products in the country.”

He also said the government continued to commit the immoral task by keeping the provision in the budget for whitening black money. “The government has placed the budget aiming its own gain in the next general election, not for the country’s welfare.”
