The fire at the laboratory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University has been extinguished, its Director says.

Smokes billowed out of the lone medical university’s bio-chemistry lab on the third floor of the Basic Science Building at around 6.15pm.

Abdul Majid Bhuiyan told bdnews24.com that the fire fighters told him smoke had generated from the wet cotton kept in the laboratory for patients use.

“The cotton caught fire from an electric short-circuit,” he said.

He said fire fighters immediately rushed to the spot and doused it and added that nothing had been burned.

Deputy Director of the fire service Abdul Halim told bdnews24.com on the spot that the fire triggered from a short-circuit in the laboratory’s switch board.
