Bombs injure 8 cops

Eight policemen were injured when home-made bombs were hurled at them from a procession of Islami Chhatra Shibir in Chapainawabganj on Tuesday.

he attacks comes a day before the Jamaat-e-Islami’s student affiliate called nationwide daylong shutdown on Wednesday.

Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rowshan Kabir, who was also injured, said the bomb attack on the policemen took place in front of the Chapainawabganj Government College at around 11am.

Others injured were Sadar police station OC Bazlur Rashid, SIs Monir, Saidur and Dulal, ASI Mukul, Constables Khairul and Abu Bakkar.

They were treated at the Sadar Hospital.

Rowshan Kabir told bdnews24.com Shibir activists hurled at least 15 handmade bombs at police when they stopped the procession in front of the college’s gate.

The police official said a live bomb was recovered from the scene, but police are yet to detain anyone.
