The BNP’s joint secretary general Mohammad Shahjahan has been authorised to attest the party’s nominees in the coming poursava (municipality) elections.

He will sign the nomination papers of the party-backed candidates and inform the election commission (EC) of the party’s blessings.

A letter to this effect, signed by the BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shimul Biswash, was sent to the EC secretariat.

A three-member BNP delegation, led by assistant publicity secretary Syed Emran Saleh, handed over the letter to the EC secretariat’s seputy secretary Shamsul Alam.

The BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, has attested a sample signature of Mohammad Shahjahan and attached the copy with the letter.

Copies of the letter are supposed to be submitted to the local EC offices of 234 municipalities where elections will be held on 30 December.

However, the BNP team alleged that they found the concerned officials absent at the EC offices, and some of the offices were found closed.
