BNP’s Haruner Rashid Monno passes away

Haruner Rashid Khan Monno, a former minister and adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, died early this morning due to old age complications at the age of 84.

He breathed his last in Manikganj around 5:00am, BNP chairperson’s media wing spokesman Syrul Kabir Khan told The Daily Star this morning.

Monno was the chairman of Monno Group of Industries, which included Monno Ceramic, Monno Jutex Industries, Monno Fabrics and Monno Attire Limited.

The Daily Star awarded him lifetime achievement award for the year of 2017 for his special contribution in Bangladesh’s business sector.

He was elected as a member of the Parliament for three times in the nomination of BNP. He was made minister without port folio after he won two seats in the 2001 election.

He left his wife Hurun Nahar, two daughters – Afroza Khan Rita, now managing director of Monno Group of Industries, and Firoza Mahmud Parvin.

His namaj-e-janaza will be held at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office and the parliament premises tomorrow. His burial will be completed after his eldest daughter returns from London.
